wins the" I Love Penrith" competition
with this poem.
Penrith is so beautiful at
night,
With orange and blue scattered lights.
Standing up proud to the darkening sky,
Glowing like a shooting star.
And the shops, what to say,
Things handcrafted just for you.
The perfect historical market town,
Just lies below The Beacon.
On a Tuesday you’ll
find,
Market stalls divine.
Great Dockray is bustling,
With the friendliest of folk.
St Andrews church, so old
and noble,
With the beautiful tune in it’s chime.
Our end of term service, held so proudly,
At the Reverend Sergeant’s home.
It’s not all houses,
roads and brick,
There’s more that I ever knew.
The vast grass park by Salkeld Road,
With a perfect view of the fells.
Of course, as well,
Not to forget,
Castle Park and the ruins,
For picnics and adventure.
From Beacon Edge my eyes look
upon,
The Ullswater mountains along the horizon.
Fells like velvet and water like silk.
I always go there for peace and quiet.
These are the reasons I love
Penrith so,
Even though I have lived here not long.
But only five years, is more than enough,
To know that I will never leave.
