Penrith, lying in the heart of Cumbria is a hidden gem amongst the busy travel and tourism hot spots within the Lake District National Park.  Action and adventure or rewind and relax Penrith is the ideal base to take you in either direction.

For the visitor Penrith offers a unique shopping experience with a wealth of Specialist Shops and a farmers market on every 3rd Tuesday of each month, providing fresh local produce. Penrith also boasts a castle situated in pleasant gardens, an ideal site for a summer picnic. Within the town there is a variety of food eateries, offering Spanish, Chinese, Indian, and Italian cuisine. The many pubs offer local beers and traditional food.

Things to do, visitor information and guides can be found in the Tourist Information Centre on Middlegate and the Penrith Museum will take you on a trip into Penrith’s past. A very short distance from Penrith there is an abundance of natural attractions, Ullswater, Lacey’s Caves, the River Eden and Long Meg just to mention a few. There are many other popular attractions, gardens, old houses, farms and wildlife parks in the area, something for everyone.

Penrith is the ideal base for exploring the Lake District with Ullswater and the busy town of Keswick just thirty minutes away. If you prefer the unspoilt and quiet Eden Valley then it is on the door step of Penrith, cycle along the country lanes, laze by the river and streams or walk the fields and hills of the Pennines.
